While studying to become a lawyer, Shontelle Layne finally fulfilled her dream of a following music career when she was signed by the record label SRC (who had also signed fellow Saint James alumni Rihanna). After writing the hit track Roll It Gal for Alison Hinds, Shontelle then had the opportunity to work with Natahlee Burke on hit tune Colours. But she wanted a solo career and eventually released her first single in July 2008 T-Shirt which hit Number 36 on the US Hot 100, but fared significantly better on its UK release when it hit the Top 10. Her debut album followed in November of the same year, although Shontelligence only reached Number 115 on the Billboard 200. The singles from this album - Stuck With Each Other and Battle Cry - also didn't fare so well. In January 2009 she supported New Kids On The Block on the UK leg of their world tour and then joined Beyoncé in May the same year on the leg of her UK tour, reflecting the fact that much of her success has been limited to the UK. She is currently working on her second album and it is scheduled for release during 2010.
