Soprano

French rapper of Comorian origin, Saïd M'Roumbaba aka Soprano was born in Marseille on 14 January 1979. Influenced by Marseille's burgeoning rap scene, with groups such as IAM and La Fonky Family, he turned to music at an early age, joining the group Psy4 de la Rime in 2002, with whom he recorded four albums up to 2008. His solo career, which began with a mixtape and then the album Puisqu'il Faut Vivre (No. 2 in 2007), continued with the live recording Live au Dôme in Marseille (2008) and a second mixtape, De Puisqu'il Faut Vivre à la Colombe (No. 14 in 2010). The first part of a diptych, La Colombe (his first French No. 1 in 2010) was followed by Le Corbeau (No. 3 in 2011). He multiplied his collaborations (Magic System, Kenza Farah, Amel Bent and the album E=2MC's with Redk), before enjoying mainstream success with the album Cosmopolitanie (No. 2 in 2014). Two years later, his fifth album, L'Everest, reached #2 in France. Author of the tracks "On fait le show" for Les Enfoirés and "Mondial" for Tal, he recorded Phoenix (#2 in 2018) and Chasseur d'Étoiles (2021), which went straight to the top of the French charts and spawned two new singles: "Près des étoiles " and "Dingue". Soprano then embarked on an extensive tour featuring almost sixty dates, including a series of concerts in stadiums such as Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, and above all an exceptional concert at the Stade de France on May 6, 2023, drawing a crowd of 85,000. From this last experience, he released the live album Un Peu Plus Près du Stade de France in 2023, which quickly entered the French charts at number 25. The following year, he returned with a studio album, Freedom, whose title is a reference to the famous Pharrell Williams hit. The title track is a single mixing pop, gospel and rap, and dealing with societal themes. He explored these themes further with Émancipation - Freedom Pt. II, also released in 2024 and featuring link-ups with fellow French rappers PLK and Limsa D'Aulnay, among others.
