Kim Sung-kyu (April 28, 1989), also known as Sungkyu or Sunggyu, is a South Korean singer and actor who rose to fame as the main vocalist of the boy band Infinite. Born and raised in Jeonju, he played in a couple of high school rock bands before moving to Seoul to pursue a career in music. After being rejected by SM entertainment, he became a trainee under Woollim Entertainment and made his debut with Infinite in 2010. His debut EP Another Me arrived in 2012 and quickly rose to the top of the charts in his native South Korea, selling over 62,000 copies. Following a handful of appearances on TV series and reality shows, Sunggyu made a comeback in 2015 with the EP 27. Produced by Nell’s Kim Jong-wan, the EP achieved pole position on the Gaon charts largely thanks to the Top 10 singles “The Answer” and “Kontrol.” It also peaked at Number 8 on Billboard’s World Albums Chart. Another chart-topper ensued in 2018 with 10 Stories, Sunggyu’s debut album, which hit Number 1 in South Korea and charted in Japan, Taiwan, and the US. A year later, Sunggyu enlisted in the military and was deployed in the Goseong area. Shortly after being discharged, he released a third EP titled Inside Me in 2020. Sunggyu terminated his contract with Woollim Entertainment and left Infinite in 2021, after which he dropped the single “Hush,” included in his single album Won’t Forget You.
