Born on February 7, 1943 in Limoilou (Canada) and died on April 30, 2002 in Lévis (Canada), Sylvain Lelièvre was a Quebec singer and poet. In 1963, he enrolled in the faculty of literature at Université Laval, graduating three years later with a bachelor's degree. That same year, he won the international "chanson sur mesure" competition organized for the radio community of French-language programs in Canada, France, Belgium and Switzerland, with his song " Les Amours anciennes ". He moved to Montreal in 1968 and was hired as a literature professor at Collège de Maisonneuve. In 1969, he published his first collection of poems, Les Trottoirs Discontinus . He followed this up in 1972 with Les Sept Portes. Sylvain Lelièvre released his first self-titled album in 1973. Two years later, he released Petit Matin. The title track became a hit on Quebec radio within a few weeks. The song " Old Orchard ", sung as a duet with Fabienne Thibault, also performed well on the airwaves. In 1976, he returned to the recording studio with an LP entitled Programme Double . The track " Marie-Hélène " reached the top of the Quebec radio charts. The same year, he wrote the music for the musical Les Héros de Mon Enfance , and in 1977 for the play Folie Douce . In 1978, he produced a second self-titled album, including the track " Lettre de Toronto ". In 1981, he recorded Venir Au Monde with the Orchestre Métropolitain. That same year, it won the Félix award for best production at the ADISQ gala. In 1986, he composed the songs " Je voudrais voir New York " and " Que cherche-t-elle? with Thierry Séchan for Daniel Lavoie's album Vue Sur la Mer . In 1989, Sylvain Lelièvre released the opus Un Aller Simple , including the song " Tôt ou tard ", which was sung by Céline Dion during her Unison tour. In 1994, he recorded the album Qu'Est-Ce Qu'On A Fait de Nos Rêves? during a show in Quebec City, exploring the jazz style. It was released in January 1996. The same year, he publishes his only career novel, Le Troisième Orchestre. He kicks off the 2000 decade with L'Intégrale 1975-1989, a compilation of his eight albums produced over 14 years. It won the Félix award for best reissue/compilation. In 2001, he presented the Versant Jazz tour, which resulted in two new albums, released in 2002 and 2004 respectively. Sylvain Lelièvre died on April 30, 2002 of a cerebral gas embolism.
