Sylvain Rifflet

Saxophonist, clarinettist and flautist Sylvain Rifflet has distinguished himself in a variety of jazz-related genres. Born in 1976, he studied at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Paris, winning a first prize in jazz in 2002. He has taken part in several groups, including Andy Emler's Mégaoctet, Fred Pallem's Le Sacre du Tympan, Alban Darche's Le Gros Cube and Rigolus, which he formed with Thomas de Pourquery and Laurent Bardainne. After the Rockingchair duo in 2007 with Arielle Besson, he recorded the albums Alphabet (2012) and Beaux-Arts (2012) as leader. In 2013, he paid tribute to avant-garde composer Moondog through a series of concerts with Jon Irabagon, summed up on the album Perpetual Motion (2014). He continues with different formations for Mechanics (2015), Refocus (2017) and Troubadours (2019), then Rebellion(s) in 2020 and Aux Anges in 2022. He collaborates successively with Finnish trumpeter Verneri Pohjola, guitarist Philippe Gordiani and, in Xmas Sax (2023), a saxophone quartet with Alban Darche, Matthieu Donarier and François Ripoche. In 2024, We Want Stars is recorded as a trio with Bettina Kee on keyboards and drummer Vincent Taeger.
