Teoman – born Fazlı Teoman Yakupoğlu in Alucra, Turkey on November 20, 1967 – is one of the most popular Turkish singers of the new millennium. His best-known songs include “Paramparça,” “Senden Önce Senden Sonra,” “Papatya” (featuring Özlem Tekin), “Serseri,” and “17.” After attending Boğaziçi University and Istanbul University, he formed his first band, Mirage, in 1986. He then performed with several bands over the next decade before recording his first solo album, Teoman, in 1996. The album featured his breakthrough hit “Ne Ekmek Ne de Su,” which won first prize at the annual Roxy Müzik Günleri in Istanbul. He continued to release hit albums such as O (1998), Onyedi (2000), Teoman (2003), and Insanlik Halleri (2009). After the release of his 2011 album Aşk ve Gurur, he announced an indefinite hiatus from music. However, by the end of 2012, he had ended his hiatus and released his long-awaited album, Eski Bir Rüya Uğruna..., in 2015. Three years later, Teoman issued the album Koyu Antoloji, which included 26 songs from his back catalog re-imagined with a darker, Leonard Cohen-esque tone. Moving towards a more intimate sound, Teoman ve Piyano (2021) featured his voice accompanied only by a piano. His 2023 EP release, Sevda Mecburi İstikamet, found him continuing to embrace the darker atmosphere of his previous albums.
