The Driver Era is an LA-based alternative rock duo formed in 2018 by brothers Ross and Rocky Lynch. The duo came together after the breakup of their previous band, R5, a pop-rock group that had gained a significant following in the 2010s. After the band's breakup in 2018, Ross and Rocky decided to embark on a new musical journey as The Driver Era. They made their debut later that year with the single "Preacher Man," which received widespread acclaim and helped establish them as a rising force in the music industry. This was followed by the singles "Afterglow" and "Low," released a few months before their studio debut X in June 2019. The album compiled all of the group's previous singles and received mostly favorable reviews from critics. Preceded by the EPs A Kiss / Forever Always (2019), Some Remixes of X (2020), and OMG Plz Don’t Come Around / Flashdrive (2020), a second full-length titled Girlfriend appeared in October 2021. Less than a year after the release of their last album, The Driver Era returned with their third studio outing Summer Mixtape (2022), which yielded the singles "Keep Moving Forward" with Nikka Costa, "Malibu," and "Fantasy."
