The American country singer Tucker Wetmore began building a national following in 2024, when his single "Wine Into Whiskey" enjoyed crossover success not only on the Billboard Hot 100, but on the Hot Country Songs chart, as well. A native of the Pacific Northwest, he was born and raised in Kalama, Washington, where he graduated high school in 2018. Wetmore's athletic ability brought him to Montana Technological University, where he spent several years playing football before an injury dashed his hopes at going pro. Looking for a new challenge, he relocated to Nashville and befriended Chad Brown (a Grammy-winning mixing engineer known for his work with Mike Farris, Gretchen Peters, and others) and Jesse Thompson. With Brown and Thompson serving as his co-producers, Wetmore kickstarted his country music career with 2021's "Kiss My A$$." The song failed to reach the charts, as did the follow-up singles "Another Shot" and "She's Trouble." Despite the lack of Billboard-certified success, Wetmore signed with Back Blocks Music in early 2023 and returned in 2024 with a new single "Wine Into Whiskey." With help from his new record label, he reached the Billboard charts for the first time that spring, when "Wine Into Whiskey" debuted at number 77 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 22 on the Hot Country Songs chart. The song was also a hit on TikTok, first appearing in a clip that was published in December 2023 and earning more than 3 million views during the three months that followed. In 2024, Tucker Wetmore featured on the tracks "Already Had It" and "Steal My Thunder" from the Twisters original soundtrack. Later that year, he dropped his debut album Waves on a Sunset.
