The Japanese five-piece boy band boy UNIONE were formed in 2013 and began life as a four-piece under the name of Soul of Asia (SoA). After losing YUTA, one of the key members of the band in 2014, the band re-emerged in 2015 with new member YUUKI and YUTA also came back into the fold following an abortive attempt at a solo career. After signing to Sony in 2016 the band released a debut album of covers by artists such as One Direction, Justin Bieber and various other Western pop artists. Their breakthrough single was their 2016 release 'BIGBANG', which accrued over two million YouTube hits suggesting the band had finally started to build an audience amongst J-pop fans. The song had previously been a major hit for the band KOEWOKIKASETE.
