Amy Grant

Regarded as the biggest-selling Christian pop artist ever (with combined sales of over 30 million), Amy Grant grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and wrote her first song Mountain Man while still at school. She was 18 and on her way to university when her self-titled debut album was released in 1978, and she eventually dropped out of college to concentrate on a music career. Her sixth album Age To Age established her as a major artist in the Christian community and released two of her most famous tracks El Shaddai and Straight Ahead before broadening her material to encompass a more mainstream pop market with the 1985 album Unguarded. Grant had her first US Number 1 single in 1986 duetting with Peter Cetera on The Next Time I Fall and, to the consternation of some sections of her Christian audience she continued to reach out to pop audiences with Heart In Motion (1991) and House Of Love (1994) - a title track that included a duet with future husband Vince Gill. One of her songs Breath Of Heaven was covered by a variety of artists, including Donna Summer, Jessica Simpson and Vince Gill. In 2002 Grant returned to gospel music with Legacy...Hymns & Faith, following it in 2005 with the sequel Rock Of Ages...Hymns & Faith. She was back in 2010 with new album Somewhere Down The Road, including the single Better Than A Hallelujah.
