Born in Paris on October 27, 1992, Clara Dufourmantelle, known as Clara Ysé, is the daughter of psychoanalyst and philosopher Anne Dufourmantelle and painter Bruno Dufourmantelle. Introduced to music as a child, she took violin lessons from the age of four, then began singing opera at the age of eight with Yva Barthélémy. In her teens, she composed her first songs on guitar, while studying literature at the Lycée Lakanal in Sceaux (Hauts-de-Seine), then philosophy at the Université Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris). Drawn to the stage, she took the pseudonym Clara Ysé, adding her middle name, when her mother died in July 2017, trying to save a friend's child from drowning in Pampleonne. In 2019, Clara Ysé released her first EP, Le Monde S'est Déboublé, the result of a partnership with producer Yulian Malaj and three musicians, in a songwriter's style with piano. Also a writer, it was under her artist name that the novel Mise à feu was published in 2021, followed in 2023 by her debut album Oceano Nox, released on the Tôt ou Tard label and ranked No. 31 on its release.
