for KING + COUNTRY scored thirteen chart-topping hits on the American Christian charts during the 2010s and early 2020s, making them one of the most successful Christian acts of the modern era. Born into a musical family in Sydney, Australia, brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone began their musical careers as backing singers for their sister, Christian artist Rebecca St. James. The family relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, during the early 1990s, where the brothers began performing together as a duo. They released their first EP, A Tale of Two Towns, in 2008 under the name Joel & Luke, later repurposing three of the EP's songs for the debut album Crave. The record was released in 2012, the same year Joel and Luke rebranded themselves as for KING + COUNTRY. Their second full-length album, Run Wild. Live Free. Love Strong, was released in 2014 and reached Number 2 on the American Christian Albums chart, as well as Number 13 on the Billboard 200. The band's honest lyrics struck a chord with a mainstream audience as well as Christian listeners, which pushed Run Wild. Live Free. Love Strong to gold status. While releasing albums like 2018's Burn the Ships and 2020's A Drummer Boy Christmas, for KING + COUNTRY began racking up a long line of chart-topping hits, including 2018's "Joy," 2019's "God Only Knows," and 2021's "Relate." The latter track doubled as the lead single from the group's fifth album, What Are We Waiting For?, which climbed to Number 1 on the Top Christian Albums chart upon its release in 2022. Three of the album's singles, including the title track, all climbed to the top of the Christian singles charts, as did the band's 2022 duet with Jordin Sparks, "Love Me Like I Am."
