France D’Amour is a singer-songwriter from Canada. She was born France Rochon on March 30, 1966, in Mont-Rolland, Québec. France D'Amour started to explore her interest in music after receiving a guitar as a gift from her father at the age of 14, discovering the work of artists such as Rickie Lee Jones and Joni Mitchell. This love for the instrument led her to pursue a specialization in jazz guitar at Collège Lionel-Groulx. She played in several bands before she released her debut album, titled Animal, in 1992. Animal was a surprise hit for France D’Amour, featuring a hard rock-influenced sound and heavy, distorted power chords. The album’s title track, “Animal,” became especially popular, showcasing her powerful vocals and the influence of artists such as Joan Jett. The album was followed by Déchaînée in 1994, and then by Le Silence des Roses in 1998. France D’Amour also explored acting, playing the role of Esmeralda in the French tour of the musical comedy Notre-Dame-de-Paris in 1998 and appearing in the comedy film Les Boys 3 in 2001. Over the following years, she released the self-titled album France D’Amour (2004), as well as Hors de Tout Doute (2005), and Les Autres (2007), establishing herself as one of the most important voices in the world of French Canadian rock. Even though subsequent releases such as Bubble Bath & Champagne (2011), En Love Majeur (2013), and Bubble Bath & Champagne, Volume 2 (2016) found her incorporating elements from jazz into her compositions, France D'Amour returned to her rock roots on her twelfth studio album, D'Amour et Rock&roll (2019).
