George Petrou was born in Athens in 1989. He studied piano at the Conservatoire and then at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He made his professional debut as a soloist in a duo with his compatriot Christos Papageorgiou. It was in this configuration that, in 1995, they won the Redding-Piette Competition. George Petrou has since moved on to conducting, creating his own Armonia Antenea ensemble with which he conducts a series of Baroque operas. A specialist in Georg Friedrich Handel, Petrou's repertoire includes Giulio Cesare, Tamerlano, Arianna in Creta, Allesandro and Arminio , alongside recitals by Max Emanuel Cencic, such as Rokoko: Hasse Opera Arias (2014). In 2015, he conducted the collection by supergroup The 5 Countertenors.
