Hillsong Young & Free are part of the successful Hillsong dynasty of worship bands who originate from the Hillsong Church based in Sydney, Australia which started making commercial Christian music in 1983. Hillsong Young & Free appeal to younger Christian music fans by combining their message with modern electro pop influences. At times their music sounds like conventional Euro pop and wouldn't sound out of place in a dance club. It's a formula which has helped carry their message to a wider and younger audience than traditional worship groups normally attract. The band were formed in 2012 by church leaders Aodhan King, Alexander Pappas, Tyler Douglass, Renee Sieff, Ben Tan and Melodie Wagner and released their first album 'We Are Young and Free' in 2013 which subsequently went to number one in the US Christian Charts. Their follow-up album 'Youth Revival' was released in 2016 and was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Contemporary Christian Album category. Hillsong Young & Free have the distinction of appealing to audiences outside of faith community and in their native Australia their albums perform well in the mainstream charts.
