Ian Carey

Best known for club hits like 2008's "Get Shaky" and 2011's "Last Night," Ian Carey was an internationally-renowned house DJ and record producer. He was born as Ian Harshman on September 13, 1975, in Hancock, Maryland. Raised by a father who had previously worked as a sound engineer for Kool & the Gang, he developed an interest in the music industry as a young age, ultimately gravitating toward dance music as a college student. Ian Carey began working as a DJ in 1993 and soon moved overseas, where developed his production skills while living in the Netherlands, Spain, and other European countries. Although singles like 2000's "Rise," 2002's "The Mobtown Sound," and 2005's "The Power" only made a moderate dent on the dance charts, Carey scored a Top 20 hit in the Netherlands with "Keep on Rising" in 2007, then cracked the Top 10 in Australia, Belgium, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom with 2008's "Get Shaky." Credited to The Ian Carey Project, "Get Shaky" featured vocals from co-writer Kelly Barnes and went double-platinum in Australia, where it charted at Number 2. Several years later, Ian Carey earned platinum status in Australia once again with 2011's "Last Night," a collaboration with rappers Snoop Dogg and Bobby Anthony. The song also went gold in Canada, as did its 2012 follow-up, "Amnesia." While continuing to tour globally, Ian Carey settled in Miami, Florida, during the final years of his life. He passed away unexpectedly in Hagerstown, MD, on August 20, 2021, at the young age of 45.
