Singaporean mandopop superstar Jocie Guo, sometimes credited as Guo Mei Mei, was born March 21, 1982. Her first singles came out in 2005 and were immediate hits. Warner quickly put all of their muscle behind her, shelling out big bucks for her music videos. The 2005 single “Mouse Loves Rice” became a best-selling single in Singapore, and paved the way for her 2006 debut LP, No More Panic, which also broke sales records. She would win numerous best new artists awards, and quickly signed numerous lucrative sponsorship deals with various products. She maintained her popularity with albums like 2007’s My Darling and 2010’s I Am Jocie. At that point, an infamous blogger with a name very similar to hers caused great confusion in the general public. The blogger’s less than respectable public persona cost Jocie Guo numerous commercial and recording possibilities, but by 2017 the mistaken personality problem resolved itself and she returned with new albums in 2017 and 2018. Closing in on her 40th birthday, she returned to the Singapore pop charts in 2021.
