Luis Francisco Hernández Mateus, artistically known as Luis Mateus, is a renowned Colombian vallenato singer born on August 12, 1976, in San Vicente de Chucurí, Santander. His passion for music ignited early, leading him to participate in various voice festivals where he garnered multiple accolades. At 20, he joined the group Los Comemanguitos under the direction of Fermín Acosta. This collaboration paved the way for a significant partnership with producer and composer Iván Calderón, culminating in his debut recording with Discos Fuentes in 1997. This album introduced hits like "Muero por Verla" and "Adiós Amor," propelling him to national and international acclaim. In 1998, he released Con Paso Firme, featuring standout tracks such as "Sin Ti No Hay Vida" and "Voy a Enloquecer." The following year, Con Encanto Juvenil showcased songs like "Alguien Como Tú" and "Buscándola." Throughout his career, Luis Mateus has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Mara Internacional in 2009 and the Cacique de Oro Internacional in 2011. In 2019, he was honored by New Jersey authorities for his contributions to Latin music in the United States. Celebrating 25 years in the industry, he received accolades from the UN, the U.S. Congress, and the State of New York in 2024. Later projects include the 2023 album Amor Imposible and the 2024 single "Un Amor del Alma," marking a reunion with Iván Calderón after two decades. Additionally, in 2024, he released Mis 20 Éxitos Renovados, reimagining 20 of his classic songs, and Clásicos del Vallenato a Mi Estilo, paying homage to vallenato legends.
