Majid Bekkas

Moroccan Majid Bekkas is a master of Gnaoua music. This cultural blend of Black Africa and the Maghreb originated in the 17th century. Trained by Ba Houmane, Majid Bekkas lives in Rabat, where he teaches Gnaoua music at the Rabat Conservatoire, and has been artistic director of the Rabat Oudayas Jazz Festival since 1996. He released his first European album African Gnaoua Blues (2001) on the Belgian label Igloo. Majid Bekkas is a true magician of encounters, proposing a music full of genre blends.
