Naira Marley, born Azeez Adeshina Fashola on May 10, 1991, in Lagos, Nigeria, is a British-Nigerian singer, songwriter, and rapper celebrated for his energetic Afrobeats and street-pop anthems. After moving to Peckham, South London, at the age of 11, he pursued studies in business and law before discovering his passion for music in 2013. His debut EP, Gotta Dance (2014), marked his entry into the industry, followed by the breakout single “Issa Goal” in 2017, which became the anthem for Nigeria’s Super Eagles during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In 2019, Marley released the controversial hit “Am I A Yahoo Boy” and the viral track “Soapy,” earning him the Viewers' Choice award at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards. That same year, his second EP, Lord of Lamba, showcased his fusion of Afrobeats and hip-hop with tracks like “Tesumole” and “Mafo.” Naira Marley further cemented his influence by founding Marlian Records in 2019, signing talents like Zinoleesky and Fabian Blu. His debut album, God’s Timing’s the Best (2022), solidified his status as a prominent figure in contemporary African music. In 2024, his single "Pxy Drip" peaked at number 48 on the US Afrobeats chart.
