Shallipopi is the stage name of Nigerian rapper Crown Uzama, whose song "Elon Musk" topped the Nigerian charts in 2023. He was born on April 12, 2000, in Benin City, Edo State. He kickstarted his career by uploading his freestyles to social media platforms like TikTok, where his blend of Edo roots, Amapiano influences, and Afropop music became popular. Meanwhile, he also attended college at Auchi Polytechnic, graduating in 2023 with a degree in Computer Science. 2023 proved to be a fortuitous career for Shallipopi, who released the debut EP Planet Pluto in July. The full-length Presido La Pluto followed in November. Both releases were successful in Nigeria, where Presido La Pluto reached Number 1 on the country's official streaming chart, the TurnTable Top 50. Also climbing to Number 1 was the single "Elon Musk," which topped the Apple Music Top 100 chart in Shallipopi's homeland. Another track, "Ex-Convict," peaked at number 6 on the TurnTable Top 100. Shallipopi also launched a record label in October 2023, signing Zerry DL and Tega Boi to his roster. On the final day of the year, the single "Cast" debuted at number 25 on America's Top 25 LyricFind chart, proof that Shallipopi had begun building an audience in the United States, as well.
