NewSong

NewSong is an American contemporary Christian music group from Valdosta, Georgia. Formed in 1981, they are also the founders of the largest annual Christian music tour in the United States, the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular. Throughout their career, NewSong have received twelve GMA Dove Award nominations and one Grammy nomination. Originally composed of Eddie Carswell, Billy Goodwin, Eddie Middleton, and Bobby Apon, the group recorded three albums independently and spent most of the 80s releasing several titles under different labels. In 1993, they scored four Number 1 hits with the album All Around the World, released via Benson Music Group. Despite the numerous lineup changes over the ensuing years, NewSong continued their winning streak with the LPs People Get Ready (1994), Love Revolution (1997), and the compilation Arise My Love: The Very Best of NewSong (1999), dedicated to the late Bobby Apon. However, their breakthrough would arrive in 2000 with the release of the Top 5 entry Sheltering Tree, which included the Number 1 hit “The Christmas Shoes.” The single topped the Adult Contemporary charts in the US for three consecutive weeks and proved so successful that the band decided to name its 2001 Christmas album after it, also inspiring two bestselling books by Christian author Donna VanLiere. During the remainder of the decade, NewSong managed to put three albums in the Top 10 of the Christian charts and entered the 2010s with their first Number 1 record of their career: 2011’s One True God, which topped Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart. This success was followed by a series of well-received worship albums such as Swallow the Ocean (2013), Faithful: Live Worship (2015), The Best Christmas Ever (2016), Greatest Hits (2018), and Just Jesus (2020).
