The German rapper SSIO was born on January 29, 1989, to Afghan parents who had fled their homeland and arrived in Germany in 1986 seeking political asylum. His birth name is Ssiawosch Sadat and he initially began his career under the name Kanakonda after signing to Nix records in 2007, a label where his brother is involved in artist management. In 2012, Sadat released a mixtape titled Spezial Material, which reached Number 69 on the German Albums Chart and his popularity began to grow rapidly amongst German hip-hop audiences. The following year, his debut album BB.UMSS.N was a surprise hit when it reached Number 6 on the German Albums Chart and also made the Top 20 in Austria and Switzerland. During this period, SSIO was studying business administration at Koblenz University and juggled his ambitions as a rapper with the time-consuming demands of his academic studies. In 2016, he followed up on the success of his studio debut when his album 0,9 went straight into the German Albums Chart at Number 1. The album spawned no less than six hit singles and established SSIO's reputation as a major hip-hop talent in his native country. This success was followed by a third full-length titled Messios (2019) that bowed at Number 2 on the German charts and Das Neue Album (2021), which featured guest spots by Xatar (“Flebix”), Fgun $haki (“Kabul Drive By”), and Kalim (“Moncler”).
