Mandopop star and successful actor Wallace Chung was born Chung Hon-leung in British Hong Kong on November 30, 1974. He made his acting debut while still a teenager, and in 1995 he launched a music career in Taiwan with OREA, a dance-heavy album whose title track topped the pop charts. By Your Side followed later that year and propelled him to a second straight award as Taiwan’s Best Idol the next year. He continued to work in both film and TV while maintaining a recording career with albums like 1996’s Miracle, the Cantonese-language album Present, and 1998’s Do You Love Him? Wallace Chung left behind his music career at the beginning of the new century, becoming a bigger celebrity for his acting. However, he returned to recording with 2004’s Soul Man. He would often release singles that were featured in his movies or television shows, and by the next decade he was regularly winning China TV Drama Awards, as well as China Music Awards. His 2015 release Sing For Life won him Top Chinese Music Awards for both Most Popular Album as well as Most Popular Song for the title track. He steadily rose higher in the Forbes ranking of Chinese celebrities. In 2021 he had another television hit with The Sword and the Brocade, and his recording of “Fallen Ink”, the program’s closing theme, became yet another chart hit for the superstar.
