Leader of the successful rock band Balthazar since 2004, Belgian Maarten Devoldere (b. Kortrijk, 1988) unveils a different musical facet in 2016 with his Warhaus project. With the support of a four-piece band, he presents this dark alter-ego. Warhaus draws on Lou Reed, David Bowie and Nick Cave to deliver a tormented rock sound. The adventure began with the song "The Good Lie", and reached a peak with the release of the album We Fucked a Flame into Being. Critical and commercial success was immediate in Belgium, and soon spread to France. In 2017, the second album Warhaus features a series of pop-rock covers from the 1980s, before Balthazar returns for two albums until 2021. Maarten Devoldere returns to his side project in 2022 with a new chamber pop style with the album Ha Ha Heartbreak, followed two years later by Karaoke Moon.
