Behind the woozy pseudonym Washed Out lies one and the same man, Ernest Weatherly Greene Jr. (born on 3 October 1982 in Perry, Georgia). This electro-savvy songwriter and producer released his debut EP High Times in 2009, followed by Life of Leisure that same year, crucially spawning the track "Feel It All Around," which helped to peg him as a rising star of the Internet-borne, Hipster Runoff-coined chillwave movement. His debut album Within and Without arrived in 2011, winning the praise of an admiring critical community, and he went on to release two more albums during the 2010s: Paracosm for Sub Pop (2013) and Mister Mellow for Stones Throw (2017). In 2020, he teamed up with producer Ben H. Allen for his fourth studio album Purple Noon, which yielded a single in "Time to Walk Away." His fifth album Notes From A Quiet Life surfaced in 2024, driven by the first single "The Hardest Part", the video of which was made with OpenAI's Sora.
