Yo Oizumi

Japanese actor, comedian, television personality, and musician Yo Oizumi was born on April 3, 1973, in Ebetsu, Hokkaido. He began exploring the world of entertainment during his university days at Hokkai Gakuen University, where he found direction in the university's theater club. This led to the formation of the music and theater company TEAM NACS in 1996, alongside Hiroyuki Morisaki, Ken Yasuda, Shigeyuki Totsugi, and Takuma Oto'o, which became a cornerstone of his early career. Earlier, in 1995, Yo Oizumi had made his TV debut on the late-night program Mosaic Nights. His big break came from the Hokkaido-based TV variety series How Do You Like Wednesday?, where he acted and sang. In 2004, he released the single "Honijitsu No Soup," which garnered much acclaim. As part of TEAM-NACS, Yo Oizumi embarked on their first national tour in 2005. He started portraying the role of Professor Hershel Layton in the 2007 video game Professor Layton and the Curious Village, leading to several sequels and a movie adaptation. Simultaneously, he lent his talent as a voice actor to several animated films, including Spirited Away and The Boy and the Beast. He won the 58th Blue Ribbon Awards for Best Actor for his role in Kakekomi and has been nominated for several Japan Academy Film Prizes, affirming his status as a respected figure in Japanese entertainment. In 2024, he released the career retrospective compilation Yo Oizumi All Time Best, which includes his most memorable and acclaimed songs.
