Yuuki Tokunaga, born on February 20, 1995, in Osaka, is a Japanese enka singer and actor with roots in Kakeromajima, Amami Islands, Kagoshima Prefecture. Influenced by his enka-loving parents, he began singing from an early age and gained local attention as a teenager performing at Amami community events in Kansai. His big break came in 2012 when he won the NHK Nodo Jiman Champion Tournament, leading to a debut offer from a record label. Tokunaga officially debuted on November 13, 2013, with the single ”Sayonara wa Namida ni", composed by BEGIN's Higa Eisho. His early works, including "Heisei Dodonpa Ondo"(2014) and "Yume Sagashi ni Ikou"(2015), featured collaborations with prominent Okinawan musicians like Miyazawa Kazufumi and Miyagi Mamoru. His image as “Japan’s Grandson” made him widely beloved. In 2014, he became the first enka singer to perform at Japan Expo in Paris, where his digital single "Heisei Dodompa Ondo" gained media attention. A turning point in his career came in 2018 when he covered Kenshi Yonezu’s "Lemon" on TBS’s Enka no Ran, earning praise for bridging genres. In 2025, Tokunaga continues his unique path by releasing "Asu e no Tsubasa", blending tradition with contemporary sensibilities.
