German Schlager singer and child star Andrea Jürgens was just 10 years old when she scored her first hit "Und dabei liebe ich euch beide." Born on May 15, 1967, in Wanne-Eickel, North Rhine-Westphalia, she first performed the song at the ARD-Silvestergala on New Year's Eve of 1977/1978. This was followed by a series of high-profile TV appearances on the popular show ZDF-Hitparade and the release of her studio debut Ich zeige dir mein Paradies later that year. Issued in 1979, her Christmas album Weihnachten mit Andrea Jürgens - Meine 20 schönsten Weihnachtsliederbecame a huge hit in Germany, reaching the top of the charts and selling over 1.5 million copies. Her winning streak continued during the first half of the '80s with releases like the folk-tinged full-length Andrea Jürgens singt die schönsten deutschen Volkslieder (1981), which peaked at Number 18 in Germany, or Mama Lorraine (1981), whose title track reached Number 9 on the local charts. After the tepid reception of the LPs Solang’ ein Mädchen träumen kann (1982) and Weil wir uns lieben (1984), Andrea Jürgens decided to take a break from her music career. Küsse der Nacht, her first album in six years, appeared in 1990. Even though her popularity dwindled during the '90s, she made a comeback in the early aughts with the album Lust aufs Leben (2005), her first charting effort in over a decade. Released in 2016, Millionen von Sternen was her final album before her death on July 20, 2017. Her posthumous releases included the Top 10 entry Auf Du und Du (2018), and the compilation Die goldene Hit-Kollektion (2022), which entered Germany's Official Albums Chart at Number 46.
