Cora is a German pop duo that was founded in Berlin in the early 1980s. The band consists of Cornelia Freifrau von dem Bottlenberg, born in 1951, and Swetlana von dem Bottlenberg (née Minkow), born in Bulgaria in 1951. Cora's musical genre is New German Wave and pop. The two musicians met in the 1970s as backing singers for Marianne Rosenberg's recordings. Their career as a duo began in the early 1980s, supported by producer Frank Farian. Cora's debut album Liebeskummer was released in 1983 and their biggest success was the single "Amsterdam (Liebe hat total versagt)", released in 1984, which became particularly popular in France. Other successful albums include Cora pur (2003) and Komm, wir fahren nach Amsterdam (2004). In the 1990s, Cora temporarily retired from the music business to run a hotel restaurant. in 2003, they celebrated their comeback with a remix of "Amsterdam" and new releases. Their most recent releases include the album Wunderbar from 2015 and their latest album 40 Jahre Amsterdam - Das Kult Album will be released on October 18, 2024. Cora's most important awards include the Goldene Europa from Saarländischer Rundfunk as "Best Newcomer of the Year" in 1990 for the single "In the Name of Love". They also received the GEMA Foundation's Willy Dehmel Prize in 1986 for outstanding achievements in the field of German-language song.
