François Pérusse

Known for his pun-heavy absurdist humor, French-Canadian comedian François Pérusse rose to fame in the early 1990s with a series of radio sketches and song parodies. Born on October 8, 1960, in Quebec City, he made his radio debut at age 12 and spent most of his teens playing bass in different local bands. Ever since it premiered on CKOI-FM's Y'é trop d'bonne heure in August 1990, his sketch series Les 2 Minutes du Peuple grew a devoted following in French Canada, spawning a compilation titled L'Album du Peuple – Tome 1 that saw the light in 1991 and sold over 80,000 copies. This success was followed by ten more instalments between 1992 and 2020, as well as by a spinoff titled L'Album Pirate that went platinum in Quebec. Additionally, François Pérusse has also enjoyed great popularity in Belgium, Switzerland, and France, where he released the LPs L'Album du peuple – Volume 1 (1997) and L'Album du peuple – Volume 2 (2002). In 1999, he branched out into television with the satirical show Le JourNul de François Pérusse, whose highlights were included in 2004's Le DVD du Peuple. Over the next few years, the Quebecois comedian participated in the Beatles-themed Cirque du Soleil show The Beatles: LOVE and received three Ruban d'Or awards from the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. In 2022, he landed his first serious role in a major film portraying Alain Lamothe on Guillaume Lambert's Niagara.
