The Swedish pop singers Anders Glenmark, Hans Thomas Eriksson, Niklas Strömstedt had all enjoyed fruitful solo careers by the time they formed the supergroup GES — also known as Glenmark, Eriksson, Strömstedt — in 1994. The band's debut single, "När vi gräver guld i USA," was released that same year. Written by the three bandmates, the anthemic single doubled as the fight song for the Swedish national football team's trip to America to participate in the FIFA World Cup. Enormously popular, "När vi gräver guld i USA" peaked at Number 1 on the Swedish single charts and won a Grammis Award for "Song of the Year." GES' debut album, Glenmark, Eriksson, Strömstedt, was released in January 1995 and also climbed to the top of the Swedish charts, with tracks like "En jävel på kärlek" and "Hon är min" becoming additional hits. A short hiatus followed, during which time GES' members pursued separate projects. They reconvened in 2003 with a new record, Den andra skivan. Although the album charted at Number 2 in Sweden, its accompanying tour with a commercial disappointment, and the GES took a much lengthier break. Following another string of solo projects from the band's three members, GES reunited once again in 2017 for several years of intermittent touring.
