Swedish rock star Tommy Nilsson, born Erik Nilsson on March 11, 1960, broke away from his first band, Horizont, with the 1981 album No Way No How. He followed that up with a self-titled album on which he tried various genres in addition to rock. When that failed to take off, he became the frontman for Easy Action, but he left them in the late 80s. He established himself on the Swedish charts with a pair of Number 1 singles (“Allt som jag känner” and “Maybe We’re About to Fall in Love”) in 1988. He finished fourth in the 1989 Eurovision Song Contest with “En Dag”, which went to number 3 in his home country. Three 90s albums gave him two more top 10 hits—“Öppna din dörr” and “Dina färger var blå”. He branched into other media incluing several TV programs and live theatrical productions, notably the musical comedy Supreme Soul with Mary Wilson. His 2007 return to the Eurovision Song Contest gave him the number 12 hit “Jag tor på människan”. His acting career picked up as his music career started to ebb, including portraying Captain von Trapp in a production of The Sound of Music that ran for eight months and becoming a popular voice actor. He appeared in multiple reality competition singing shows in the 2010s.
