Young Russian soprano Julia Lezhvena graduated with distinction from Moscow's Gretchaninov Music School and then continued her musical studies under the tutelage of Welsh tenor Dennis O'Neill at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice. During her time at Cardiff the institution's president Dame Kiri Te Kanawa presented Lezhneva as her protégé launching the young soprano's international career. Lezhvena had been performing in public regularly from the age of twelve and had appeared at Rachmaninoff Halls in Moscow, the Bolshoi Theatre and numerous venues across Europe. In 2009, at 20 years old, she became the youngest ever winner of the Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition and later in the year appeared at Salzburg's Mozartwoche festival performing soprano in Mozart's 'Great Mass'. Since then Lezhneva has toured the major concert halls of Europe performing works by Handel, Bach, Mozart, Bellini, Rossini, Vivaldi.
