Lefty SM

Lefty SM, born Juan Carlos Sauceda Vásquez, was a Mexican rapper and singer who blended hip-hop with regional Mexican influences, creating a unique sound that resonated deeply with fans. Raised in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, he was influenced by rap legends like 50 Cent and Eminem, as well as the corridos he grew up around. He started making music in 2010, gaining recognition with his debut album Avión De Papel (2019), which showcased his lyrical talent and versatility. Lefty SM collaborated with prominent artists such as Gera MX, Santa Fe Klan, Dharius, C-Kan, and Neto Peña, bridging the gap between rap and regional Mexican music. One of his most impactful songs, "Por Mi México," became an anthem for the Mexican diaspora, especially after its 2023 re-release featuring Santa Fe Klan, Dharius, and others. The track gained millions of streams and was embraced as a symbol of cultural pride and resistance among Mexicans living in the U.S. Tragically, Lefty SM was murdered in Zapopan, Jalisco, on September 2, 2023, cutting short a promising career that had made him a key voice in Mexican hip-hop.
