Shawn Peter Raul Mendes (born 8 August 1998 in Toronto) is a singer and songwriter from Canada. Shawn Mendes initially gained attention by releasing cover versions of well-known hits on social media. At the age of 15, he was signed to his first record deal with Island Records. His first single "Life Of The Party" made it straight into the US charts at number 24. In his native Canada, it even reached number 10. 2015 saw the release of his debut album Handwritten. Shawn Mendes shot to number 1 in the USA and Canada, and the album also reached top positions internationally. The other albums Illuminate (2016), Shawn Mendes (2018) and Wonder (2020) made it into the top 10 charts worldwide. Shawn Mendes' best-known songs are "Stitches", "Treat You Better", "SeƱorita" and "Monster", which he sang together with Justin Bieber. The single "It'll Be Okay" was released in 2021. In 2017, Shawn Mendes played an MTV Unplugged concert, which was also released as a live album. In 2016, he won the People's Choice Award as Favorite Breakout Artist for his music. In the same year, the singer won in the Best Male Artist category at the MTV European Music Awards. Shawn Mendes has also been nominated several times for the Grammy Awards. The singer has taken some time for his fifth studio album. Shawn was released in October 2024. In the summer of the same year, he made his musical return with the Shawn EP.
