The son of a music teacher and a Church pastor, Austin French began singing at an early age, and after attending a Christian music camp, decided to become a musician. He formed a band with some friends from high school and spent the weekends travelling and performing in small venues. In 2014, he took part in the American TV talent show 'Rising Star' and impressed the judges with his combination of Christian and mainstream songs. He came second in the competition and spent the next few years perfecting his songwriting skills. At this time he had already been a church leader in Tifton, Georgia, and was now working in a church in Florida. French released his debut single 'Freedom Hymn' in 2017 after signing to the record company Fair Trade Services. The track was the first release from his album 'Wide Open' (2018) which not only reached the top 40 in the Billboard Top Christian Albums Chart, but also the American Heatseekers Chart. Other tracks released from the album that reached the US Christian Singles Chart were 'Why God' and 'Born Again', both from 2018. Two non-charting singles from the album were also released in 2018: 'Wide Open', featuring Matthew West, and 'Good Feeling'.
