Although formed in 2015 in Nashville, Tennessee, the GMA Dove Award-nominated band We Are Messengers also rooted in Monaghan, Ireland, where frontman Darren Mulligan was born and raised. After relocating to the US, he launched the Christian rock group with his wife, vocalist Heidi Mulligans, as well as guitarist Caleb Clingan, bassist Matthew Montgomery, and drummer Alex McVey. We Are Messengers, the band's self-titled debut album, was released by Word Records in 2016 and debuted at Number 10 on the US Christian Albums chart, its success driven in part by the Top 10 Christian airplay single "Everything Comes Alive." Nominated for "New Artist of the Year" at that year's GMA Dove Awards, We Are Messengers released a Christmas-themed EP, God With Us, during the final stretch of 2016, then returned in 2017 with another pair of Top 10 hits ("Magnify" and "Point to You") from their self-titled release. Honest, the band's second EP, arrived in 2019 and climbed to Number 7 on the Top Christian Albums chart, while the full-length Power appeared in 2020. "Power," the album's lead single, peaked at Number 5 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs and Number 2 on the Christian Airplay chart, making the band's most successful single to date. "Love (Won't Let Go)" and "Image of God" also cracked the Top 10. Within a year of the album's release, We Are Messengers had begun working on a third album, Wholehearted, with the new single "Come What May" hinting at the upcoming record's sound. Wholehearted reached number 15 on the Top Christian Albums chart, matching the previous album's peak, and the group returned in 2024 with its fourth studio album, Where The Joy Is.
